Florida Gulf Coast hung around with the North Carolina Tar Heels for the first half. But UNC pulled away in the second half en route to a 83-67 win.
The No. 16 seeded FGCU was down just 41-40 at the end of the first half, and the Eagles were hoping to become the first No. 16 seed to ever knock off a No. 1. But it wasn't to be, as UNC blew out the Eagles 41-25 in the second half.
Five different Tar Heels had double-figures in the win. Brice Johnson led the way with 18 points. He also added 7 rebounds and an incredible eight blocks.
FGCU shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the first half, but came back down to earth in the second. The Eagles finished with a 41.1 shooting percentage in the game.
The Tar Heels advance to the Round of 32 Saturday. They await the winner of tonight's USC-Providence matchup.
