CLEVELAND -- Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday was placed on the 10-day disabled list after tweaking his lower back on a swing on Friday night. In a corresponding move, they recalled first baseman Garrett Cooper from Triple-A Scranton on Sunday.
Holliday has struggled since returning from a stint on the DL due to a viral infection. He went hitless in four at-bats during Friday's 7-2 loss to Cleveland, in which manager Joe Girardi said the injury occurred, and the veteran is batting just .136 (11-for-81) with a homer and four RBIs since July 14.
