The Chicago Cubs have agreed to trade infielder Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees. The move has been rumored to be in the works for much of Tuesday afternoon. It's not a surprise, since the Cubs signed infielder Ben Zobrist and needed to make space for him.
The Yankees will likely move Castro to second base, where the team was looking for an upgrade. Castro is just 26 years old. He hit .265 last season with 11 homers and 69 RBIs. He has a semi-hefty contract and is owed $38 million through 2019, although that's not much for the Yankees. Castro has had issues in the past with defense, but has plenty of potential.
The Yankees will gave up pitcher Adam Warren and infielder Brendan Ryan in the deal. Warren posted a 7-7 record with a 3.29 ERA for the Yankees in 2015. He was mostly a relief pitcher, although he did make 17 starts. Warren is just 28 years old and had spent his entire career with the Yankees after the team took him in the fourth round of the 2009 draft.
Ryan is a 33-year old journeyman infielder. He his career started with the St. Louis Cardinals, before moving to the Seattle Mariners and then Yankees. He hasn't played 100 games since 2013 and likely won't with the Cubs. He'll be a depth piece for the Cubs, if he makes the team.
