LOS ANGELES - Steven Matz made it. The left-hander was named to the Mets' NLDS roster and will likely start Game 4 Tuesday night at Citi Field. The rookie left-hander cleared the final hurdle with a long-toss session on Friday morning after he threw in an Instructional League game on Thursday.
The Long Island native has been dealing with tightness behind his right shoulder blade, an injury the Mets downplayed but which eventually ended up costing him his final start of the regular-season. That also cast doubt on his availability for the playoffs.
The Mets concern about putting Matz, who has a history of being injury prone, on the roster is that any player who is hurt and placed on the DL during a playoff series is then ineligible for the next series.
