The Mets' Seth Lugo started and pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Puerto Rico in its 11-0 mercy-rule win over Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic Friday in Jalisco, Mexico.
Lugo, one of several Mets vying for the fifth starter spot, allowed one hit and struck out three with no walks. He threw 65 pitches, 40 for strikes against a lineup that included Miguel Cabrera and Jose Altuve.
The Mets' T.J. Rivera, Puerto Rico's first baseman, ended the game in the seventh inning with a two-run homer. He also had a sac-fly RBI.
