The Mets didn’t win Game 1 of the World Series, but Juan Lagares did enough to earn a spot in the starting lineup for Game 2.
Lagares, who had two hits, a stolen base and run scored off the bench Tuesday, will start in center field Wednesday night with Yoenis Cespedes moving to left.
Michael Conforto, who started in left Tuesday, will be the designated hitter.
The move shores up the Mets outfield defense with the Gold Glover Lagares in center. On the first pitch of Tuesday’s game, Cespedes and Conforto got mixed up on a fly to left field on the first pitch of the game, resulting in an inside-the-park home run for Alcides Escobar.
