The New York Knicks face another crucial offseason as they try to build a playoff team that can become a contender, and they have their sights set on several moves to help them get there. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding New York's plans this summer:
New York looking to add max player in free agency
New York has never been afraid to go after the top free agents available, and new Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek echoed that sentiment, saying he expects them to add at last one max player this offseason.
“Oh, absolutely,” Hornacek said on Boomer & Carton. “I think they’ve always had that mentality. From the outside the Knicks organization is always a team that they want to get the best team possible. They are willing to spend the money and we ant to try to bring a championship to New York. They’re going to try.”
The most likely candidate appears to be Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley, who has been linked to New York all season.
Knicks unlikely to pursue Durant
One max player that New York will likely stay away from? Kevin Durant.
When asked about pursuing the All-Star forward, Hornacek wouldn't address players by name due to tampering rules, but it seems as though they'll be focusing their attention elsewhere.
“No, we haven’t talked about the free agency stuff yet,” Hornacek said. “That’s July 1st. Obviously there’s a lot of players out there that we’d love to have if we can get a chance to at least talk to them. We have some money so hopefully we can get a player to fill in for us.”
That would obviously change, of course, if Durant expressed an interest in meeting with the team once free agency begins on July 1.
