The New York Knicks slid to the No. 8 overall pick in the NBA Draft following the draft lottery and one player they're interested in is North Carolina State point guard Dennis Smith. In a strong point guard class, Smith is one of the top four options (or five if Malik Monk counts).
For starters, Adam Zagoria reports the Knicks will work out Smith before the NBA Draft. In addition to that, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports Smith "has landed squarely in their crosshairs."
"The Knicks are intrigued by the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard, but also are concerned about his basketball IQ, defense, his fit in the triangle offense and an ACL tear suffered in high school," Berman adds.
Smith was fantastic as an individual player for the struggling Wolfpack last year. He was the ACC freshman of the Year after posting 18.1 points per game, 6.2 assists and 1.9 steals. He's a fantastic athlete as well.
If Smith isn't the pick and the Knicks want a guard, the other likely options are France's Frank Ntilikina (who the Knicks have already been linked with) or Kentucky's Malik Monk.
