Knicks Coaching Rumors: Top 3 Candidates As Of May 15th

Steve Kerr dropped the world of Knicks coaching rumors on its head yesterday, turning has back on negotiations with Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks to accept a job closer to home with the Golden State Warriors. Where will the Knicks find their Plan B? We're here to show you with the Top 3 Knicks Coaching Candidates As Of May 15th:

3. Jim Cleamons

There are some who believe that Phil Jackson's former protegee should have been the favorite all along to help install Jackson's beloved triangle offense in the Garden. The current Milwaukee Bucks' assistant coach was beside the Zen Master for nine of his NBA championships, and is long overdue to get his second chance at an NBA head coaching gig (28-70 as Dallas Mavericks head coach from 1996 to late-1997). Is New York the right place at the right time for Cleamons to get his big break?

2. Mark Jackson

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith believes the Knicks should have called their former star player yesterday and offered him the job. The exiled former Golden State Warriors head coach may bring a lot of baggage with him from his stay in Oakland, but he is media-savvy enough to play it off well under the scrutiny of the New York microscope. His intelligence is unquestionable -- so if Phil Jackson is looking for a young, passionate coach to install the triangle, there is no doubt that Mark Jackson could get it done.

1. Kurt Rambis

This may elicit a collective groan from New York Knicks fans looking for a "sexy" hire to replace Mike Woodson, but Kurt Rambis may be exactly what Phil Jackson is looking for -- an extension/projection of himself onto Madison Square Garden's sidelines. Rambis had an abysmal start to his NBA head coaching career in Minnesota (32-132 from 2009-11), but he may be the exact company man the Knicks want to usher in the Zen Master 2.0 era. Whether Knicks fans are excited to come along for the ride is another matter entirely.
