There have been plenty of rumors swirling around the New York Knicks and potential trades this season, and while they haven't pulled the trigger on a deal yet, there is momentum surrounding a couple of moves as we head towards Thursday's trade deadline. Many of the rumors center around star forward Carmelo Anthony, but his no-trade clause and desire to stay in New York mean there's a 99.9 percent chance he won't be moved.
However, there are several other potential deals the Knicks are pursuing. Here are three trades they could make:
Knicks trade Jose Calderon, future first-round pick to Timberwolves for Ricky Rubio
Minnesota is trying to unload Rubio to make room for second-year slam dunk champ Zach LaVine in the starting lineup, and New York has a need for a long-term point guard of the future. Rubio's a pass-first point guard that would fit well in the traditional triangle offense (if Phil Jackson continues to try and run that), and he wouldn't take shots away from Carmelo Anthony. Plus, his ability on the defensive end would be a needed upgrade on that side of the ball.
The Knicks are targeting Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley in free agency, yet there are signs that he'll return to Memphis - and New York can't have Calderon starting if they want to be a playoff team.
Knicks trade Jose Calderon, future protected first-round pick to Pistons for Brandon Jennings
If New York can't work out a deal for Rubio, they'll turn their attention towards Jennings. He has been the subject of trade rumors ever since they signed Reggie Jackson to a five-year, $80 million deal this offseason, and now that he's playing well after having surgery to repair his torn Achilles, his name has come up again. Jennings is a versatile, starting-caliber guard that can make plays on the perimeter.
Knicks trade Arron Afflalo, Lance Thomas to Magic for Victor Oladipo, Shabazz Napier
Afflalo has been a great player for the Knicks throughout the first half of the season, but a chance to get a younger player in Olapido with essentially the same skill set and more potential would be a steal for New York. Orlando has put Oladipo in a trade block, and the addition of Shabazz Napier would improve New York's backcourt depth. The Magic are looking to add more experience and a veteran presence to their locker room, which both Afflalo and Thomas would bring.
