NFL Free Agency is officially here, and the next few days will feature at least a few New York Jets rumors. The Jets have made a few moves early, and they might not be done yet. With that in mind, here are all of the interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Jets.
Jets GM Wants Fitzpatrick Back
It's been a bit of a surprise that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has yet to find a landing spot this offseason. He's reportedly asking for too much, but Jets' GM Mike Maccagnan still wants him back.
"We feel we have a very good situation for Ryan here," Maccagnan said Friday. "We think he’s a really good fit for us. Our goal is to eventually get Ryan under contract. We’re focused on trying to get the player back ... I think this will be the situation of a lot of our players and the agents that we deal with: We don’t really want to put any context of ‘Are we close? Are we far?’ We’re focused on trying to get the player back, and I would like to leave it at that."
If the Jets can't bring back Fitzpatrick, they'd be left with Geno Smith and Bryce Petty at QB. That's why they've brought in Robert Griffin III for a visit.
RGIII Update
The Jets didn't make an offer to Robert Griffin when he visited. It was more of a "meet and greet."
"We do have, like every team does, contingency plans because that’s what you have to be prepared for," Maccagnan said. "I don’t want to get into who we have as our contingency plan because it’s a competitive thing. We don’t want to tell other teams what we want to do. “We did, obviously, bring Robert Griffin in. It was a situation where he’s a quarterback that’s available on the street. It was really more just to do our due diligence with him, because I haven’t really talked to or seen him since his Baylor Pro Day that was four, or whatever years ago. Robert Griffin was a player that we looked at, but our focus is to get something done with Ryan."
It's clear that Plan A for the Jets is to re-sign Fitzpatrick. With the Broncos saying the price is too high, it seems like Fitzpatrick will eventually end up in New York.
Jets Not Trying To Trade Muhammad Wilkerson
There was a fake report last week about Wilkerson going to the Bears, but that's been about it on the Wilkerson trade front. Here's why: the Jets don't plan on moving the DE who they franchise tagged this year.
“That’s not something we’re actively pursuing,” Jets GM Mike Maccagnan on a potential Wilkerson trade.

While that doesn't eliminate the possibility of the Jets listening to offers if they come through, it seems likely Wilkerson will be in New York next season.
