2015 NFL Draft: New York Jets Select DE Leonard Williams

With the sixth pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Leonard Williams out of USC.

Position: Defensive Tackle

Measurables: 6’5”, 302 lbs, 34 ⅝” arm length, 10 ⅝” hands

Analysis:

One of the most athletically gifted defensive lineman to hit the NFL Draft in years, Leonard Williams was named USC’s Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player in 2014. Selected as one of five USC captains before the season, Williams posted 80 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles during an eye-opening 2014 campaign.

While there’s nothing about his Combine numbers that jumps off the page, his work in drills means nothing compared to the raw tangibles he possesses. A mixture of elite length, athetic ability, and power, Williams absolutely trucks opposing offensive lineman with strong hands and an internal compass which keeps him pointed at the ball carrier. Versatile enough to move up and down the line, he is a dangerous pass rusher who can also discard run blocks with seeming ease. His potential may outstrip his actual numbers at USC, but he’s got every gift in the book to dominate at the NFL level.
