New York kept Pierre-Paul out of free agency by franchise tagging him, but he did not sign the tender before he lost his right index finger and part of his right thumb in a July 4 fireworks accident.
Pierre-Paul had to pass a physical before he could sign any contract, which he couldn't pass until now.
JPP had 12.5 sacks last season.
