The NFL announced Monday that it will suspended New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. for one game. The suspension stems from his actions during the Giants' loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Beckham drew three personal fouls Sunday. Beckham and Panthers CB Josh Norman had been chirping and shoving each other all afternoon. The worst action on Beckham's part was when he deliberately targeted the helmet of Norman.
In a letter to Beckham, NFL VP of Football Operations Merton Hanks wrote, “At numerous times during yesterday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, your actions placed a fellow player at unnecessary risk … and clearly did not represent the high standards of sportsmanship expected.”
Norman was not happy with Beckham after the game, and ripped him in post-game interviews.
"The guy ran 15 yards down the field, dead-on collision,'' Norman said. "The play was all the way to the left side. He came back and was hunting, and it was just, like, malicious in every way."
The suspension is without pay and Beckham will appeal. The appeal will be heard on Wednesday and a decision is expected to be quick. The Giants need Beckham on the field, as they are fighting for their playoff lives. New York hosts the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
