New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford is probable for Sunday's game against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. While Weatherford is expected to play through injuries to his left ankle and back, the team worked out an emergency option just in case on Friday.
Per Mike Wilkening of NBC's Pro Football Talk, "according to NJ.com, the Giants put punter Robert Malone through a tryout on Friday. The 26-year-old Malone has had regular season stints with the Buccaneers (2010), Lions (2011) and Jets (2012-13). He was with Washington in the 2014 preseason."
Malone wasn't signed on Friday, as reported by NJ.com. The team would have to open a roster spot on their currently full 53-man squad in order to make room for him.
Weatherford is worried that the long plane ride to Seattle could prove troublesome for his current injury status. If he disembarks the airplane in bad shape, don't be surprised if the team scrambles to sign and fly in Malone in advance of Sunday's game.
