The New York Giants may be looking for a new head coach this offseason with reports that Tom Coughlin is expected to resign, and there are plenty of great options available. However, there is no one better for the Giants than New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, who could part ways with the team. Here are three reasons why the Giants should hire Payton:
3) Players coach
Coughlin had a lot of success in New York with his strict disciplinary style, but Payton's more laid-back, player-friendly style would be a nice breath of fresh air for this team. The Giants desperately need some kind of spark to give this team a boost, and Payton is exactly the kind of guy who can provide that.
2) Will get the most out of Eli Manning
Payton's connection with Drew Brees should really intrigue New York's front office at thinking about what he could do with Eli Manning. The Giants have an abundance of offensive weapons, led by Odell Beckham Jr., that Payton never had with the Saints, leaving the potential for New York to put up record-breaking numbers on offense. Manning is still playing at a high level, but he could take a massive leap forward and re-ignite his career in Payton's system.
1) Championship experience
Even though the Giants have struggled lately, they're still a team that has playoff expectations and championship aspirations every single season. Payton has the pedigree from his Super Bowl XLVI championship and 87-57 career coaching record that prove he can get the job done in the Big Apple - and give fans a reason to be excited.
