Dion Lewis not just a third-down threat for Patriots

FOXBORO — Dion Lewis’ prime-time performance against the Steelers was indicative of a running back on the verge of a breakout season.

While it might have looked like a spot start in response to LeGarrette Blount’s one-game suspension, Lewis ran well enough to warrant an extended stay in a prominent role. He won’t be confused for a feature back, but Lewis showcased the skills to remain on the field in all situations, even if he splits snaps with Blount.

Lewis had 15 carries for 69 yards and four receptions for 51 yards, and it wasn’t a fluke, despite matching his rushing total from the previous three seasons and more than doubling his career yardage through the air.
