Dennis Franchione is retiring from coaching, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday.
Franchione coached Texas State for the last five seasons. Among his other stops he coached five seasons at Texas A&M, two at Alabama, three at TCU and six at New Mexico. He also was the head coach at Southwestern College and Pittsburg State during his career.
Among the players Franchione helped launch successful professional careers were Brian Urlacher and LaDainian Tomlinson.
