The Timberwolves have tried to trade Rubio for over a year, even after trading away Kris Dunn. With Rubio and his salary gone, the Timberwolves will target point guards in free agency. Kyle Lowry, last with the Toronto Raptors, is a prime target. Jeff Teague is another option for Minnesota.
The Jazz made the move with the assumption George Hill will leave in free agency. He was likely too expensive for the Jazz to keep. The Jazz had $16 million in extra cap space that was set to expire on July 1st, meaning they needed to get a deal done tonight.
