Watching Michigan's 31-0 dismantling of BYU last Saturday, it's difficult to imagine a defense playing better.
The shutout. Allowing just 105 yards of offense to a potent opponent. The fewest yards surrendered against a major-conference level team this season.
It was as close as the Wolverines may get to the holy grail.
Yet the architect, defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, sees something more.
"Sometimes people get so caught up in the statistics – obviously there were some good stats coming out of last game, the last couple," Durkin said on Monday's "Inside Michigan Football" radio show.
