The Hawaii Warriors and Maryland Terrapins were tied mid-way through the second half, but the No. 5 seeded Terrapins pulled away from No. 13 seeded Hawaii to win 73-60. Maryland heads to the Sweet 16 with the win.
Maryland won despite giving up 16 offensive rebounds to Hawaii and getting just two of its own. However, Hawaii shot just 32.9 percent from the field against Maryland's 45.8. Surprisingly, the Terrapins were just 1 of 18 from beyond the arc.
Four players had double figures for the Terrapins. Melo Trimble led the way with 24 points and seven rebounds, while Diamond Stone had 14 points. Rasheed Sulaimon and Jake Layman had 14 and 10 points, respectively.
It was a two-man show for Hawaii for most of the game. Mike Thomas had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Stefan Jankovic had 14 points and seven boards. Roderick Bobbitt averaged 13 points per game this season and had 17 against Cal Friday, but was limited to just 6 points on 1 of 8 shooting. He did have seven assists and seven rebounds.
The Terrapins will face No. 1 seeded Kansas next week. The Jayhawks defeated UConn earlier Sunday.
