As punishment for punching a team equipment manager, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin will be suspended four games by the NBA, the team announced. The suspension will be without pay and Griffin will be fined another game's pay as well.
The NBA and the Clippers worked together to determine the suspension. Los Angeles will donate Griffin's suspended salary to charities focused on disadvantaged youth in the area. Griffin will also contribute time with the organizations.
"We have made it clear that this conduct has no place in the Clippers organization," the team said in statement. "Blake is remorseful and has apologized for his actions. He is a valued member of our Clippers family and we support him as he rejoins the team. He understands his actions have consequences and is eager to get back to work with his teammates, the organization and Clippers Nation which starts immediately with rehab, appearances and attendance at games."
Griffin suffered a broken hand when he punched equipment manager and friend Matias Testi. Griffin is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with the broken hand. Before being sidelined, Griffin was averaging 23.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game this year.
