In the wake of racially-charged comments attributed to their owner Donald Sterling via audio acquired by TMZ Sports, the Los Angeles Clippers considered boycotting Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series with the Golden State Warriors.
However, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the team has decided to proceed as normal: "Los Angeles Clippers players and coaches discussed boycotting their playoff game against the Golden State Warriors after the team's owner was alleged to have told his girlfriend not to bring blacks to games. The team ultimately decided not to boycott and will play the Warriors in Game 4 of their first-round series Sunday afternoon."
Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said that a boycott was one of the actions discussed in a 45-minute meeting prior to Saturday's practice at the team's hotel. However, the team ultimately decided to play on and let the NBA take action on their own accord:
"We needed to talk about it because everyone else is," Rivers stated of the team's meeting, via Spears. "We needed to talk about it and all things came up. We heard all the stuff and boycotts and all that stuff. All those things are things you can do. We choose to play and we're going to play tomorrow."
"The players are not going to deal with this issue," Rivers stated. Rivers is the only member of the team's on-court staff to address the issue via the media.
