The Los Angeles Clippers have had a very eventful offseason to this point, bringing in Lance Stephenson and Paul Piece while surprisingly re-signing starting center DeAndre Jordan after he had agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Now that we're two weeks into free agency, here's what we've learned about the Clippers:
They're more of a team than we thought
For the first part of the offseason, the headlines around the Clippers centered around reported rifts between Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan, but their team unity showed itself in a big way in their quest to re-sign Jordan. Not only did Jordan feel like he couldn't leave his teammates, but having almost everyone on the roster flocking to his house to keep Mark Cuban and the Mavericks from getting a chance to talk to him showed that this team has each other's backs.
Need for depth has been addressed...sort of
The additions of Pierce and Stephenson give the Clippers some much needed wing depth, but Glen Davis is still their only backup big man. Pierce will be expected to play some small-ball four, but they still need to find another big man before they can say they have a complete roster.
The Clippers are going to play FAST
That lack of size also indicates that Los Angeles is going to play a lot more small ball and at a faster tempo, hoping to implement some of what has made the Warriors so successful. The Clippers will obviously be different from the Warriors because of the presence of Griffin and Jordan, but both players are capable of getting up and down the court like guards. Because of those changes, Los Angeles should be even more exciting to watch this year.
