The market for free agent utility man Ben Zobrist is getting extremely competitive right now, with several teams (including the home-standing Kansas City Royals) vying for his signature.
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Zobrist has already met with the New York Mets. He'll also make three other trips, including a likely appearance in San Francisco.
Sources: Zobrist visited #Mets on Wednesday. Spent day, had dinner with Alderson and J. Wilpon, toured parts of Westchester and Connecticut.

Sources: Zobrist has two visits remaining, will make a total of four. #Mets were one. #SFGiants likely another. Others not known.

In addition, the Atlanta Braves have made their interest known. The St. Louis Cardinals? It appears they've fallen completely off the pace:
Sources add: #Braves visited Zobrist, who lives in Nashville. #STLCards not in mix.

Don't rule out the Royals, however. While several MLB experts believe that the market will dictate that the veteran Zobrist will command a fourth year on a long-term deal due to the mass amount of interest in his services, rumblings around Kansas City indicate that the team is still cautiously optimistic that they're in the mix. The 34-year-old middle infielder/outfielder loved playing in Kansas City and could accept a discount to remain with an organization that he knows is in position for another championship run.
Stay tuned.
