The Kansas City Royals head into Oakland winners of six of their last seven, and will look to continue their early-season mojo against an A's team that was just swept by the Los Angeles Angels. While KC is firing on all cylinders, there are a couple of unresolved issues involving players that could play an important role in their repeat bid.
Read on for the latest news and rumors involving returning outfielder Jarrod Dyson and top prospect Kyle Zimmer.
Who goes down to make way for Dyson?
Dyson, the team's projected starting right fielder before a strained oblique sent him to the sidelines, should be ready to come back after this weekend's series. Who exactly gets sent down to make room for him on the roster remains to be seen, but it looks like it's down to three players: Reymond Fuentes, Terrance Gore and Paulo Orlando. Fuentes is probably the most likely candidate given the rookie's early-season struggles, not to mention the fact that he and Dyson boast comparable skill sets.
Can Zimmer shake the injury bug?
Former No. 5 overall pick Kyle Zimmer has had his career slowed by a string of injuries, but the Royals are still hopeful that their top pitching prospect will be able to contribute at the big-league level this season. The 24-year-old remains in extended spring training as he rehabs a bout of shoulder fatigue, and is scheduled for some side throwing sessions in the coming days.
