Royals acquire reliever Jason Frasor from Rangers, trade away prospect

In today's Royals trade rumors and news update, the Texas Rangers traded 36-year-old relief pitcher Jason Frasor to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, with the Royals shipping off Triple-A pitching prospect Spencer Patton in return.

The right-handed Frasor is currently in the middle of a really solid season for the Rangers in 2014, posting a 3.34 ERA with 9.1 K/9 and an impressive 47.6 percent ground ball rate. This marks the fifth out of six seasons in which Frasor has posted an ERA of 3.68 or below.

He also represents a cost-effective addition for general manager Dayton Moore, with Frasor being owed just $717,000 of his $1.75 million salary for 2014.

Losing Spencer Patton doesn't really affect the framework of the Royals' farm system, as the 26-year-old right-hander wasn't ranked by Baseball America as one of the team's top 30 prospects. He has a 4.08 ERA with just under a 3.0 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.
