KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs' fortune with quarterbacks and the draft is such that the one time the last several years that the team was in position to take a true franchise passer -- in 2013, when it had the first overall pick -- there were none available. This was just one year after the Indianapolis Colts, with the draft’s top pick, selected a can’t-miss quarterback, Andrew Luck.
That’s another chapter in the sorry history of the Chiefs’ attempt to draft a quarterback in the first round. The last time the Chiefs tried, in 1983, they passed on a chance to draft either of two eventual Hall of Famers, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino.
