With Vogel out, the Pacers will need to find a new head coach. Some of the early speculation has linked the team to Kevin McHale, a former teammate of Bird. However, Bird said in his press conference that McHale would not be the next head coach.
Vogel wanted to stay as Pacers head coach. Bird said that he spoke with Vogel this morning, and Vogel kept asking him to reconsider.
As for what's next for Vogel, he should be able to find a new job. He posted a 250-181 record after taking over in 2011. However, he was just 31-30 in the playoffs. He's highly regarded as a defensive coach.
