With little notice and time to prepare, the Tallahassee community faced its strongest weather event in years.
70 MPH wind gusts, inch-wide hail, and tornado warnings pounded Florida State’s campus in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving the town littered with downed trees, powerlines, and debris. The city of Tallahassee announced that 66,000 customers are without power, and they estimate it will take until the weekend to get electricity back into homes and apartments. Shortly after the weather event, FSU released a statement:
The FSU campuses in Tallahassee are closed Friday, May 10, due to this morning’s severe weather.
