CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ashley Gonzalez’s goal with 29 seconds left in the third quarter proved to be the difference maker, as the Florida lacrosse team (19-2, 6-0 AAC) defeated fifth-seeded Virginia (15-5, 6-3 ACC) by a score of 13-8 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Gators are advancing to their eighth quarterfinals, and first since 2022.
With the score tied 7-7 in the third quarter, Gonzalez’s goal sparked a 6-0 Gators run in a span of 11:57 to give UF their largest lead of the game at six goals.
