Florida plans to contact Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly about their head coaching vacancy, according to a report from CBS Philly.
Kelly hasn't expressed interest in the Gators, but Florida wants to at least find out if anything's there. He turned Oregon into a national power before taking the Eagles to the top of the NFC East, and there are still questions about whether or not he wants to return to the college ranks.
When he was hired by Philadelphia, he said he would not return to college, though many wondered if he actually meant it. The 18-month “show cause” order entered in connection with sanctions against Kelly stemming from NCAA violations at Oregon expires on Christmas Day, which would clear the way for him to return to the collegiate sidelines.
Kelly is making $6 million a year with the Eagles and has full control over player personnel, so the Gators are going to have to come up with an extremely lucrative offer to get him to consider leaving Philly.
