They sure didn't gain any style points in their quests for a College Football Playoff berth, but the #8 Florida Gators will take an ugly win over a catastrophic home loss any day.
Surviving a gutsy upset bid by a game Florida Atlantic Owls squad, the Gators saved their season on a Treon Harris TD pass to TE Jake McGee in overtime (despite a blocked extra point), stiffening up on defense on the next series to escape Gainesville with an 20-14 victory.
UF's offense was stuck in neutral most of the day, gaining just 252 total yards of offense while missing on opportunity after opportunity. The Florida Atlantic defense pinned Treon Harris in all day, keeping him from doing damage with his legs and limiting his options in the pocket.
However, behind 98 yards rushing and a TD by RB Kelvin Taylor and some clutch work in the Florida secondary, the Gators kept pace with the Owls and kept them from running away with a historic win.
With the win, the 10-1 SEC East champs keep their CFP hopes alive and deny Florida Atlantic from winning their first-ever game against a ranked team. Florida will host Florida State next Saturday in a massive game for both squad's postseason hopes.
