Tight end is normally a top-heavy position, but there is some depth this year. If you're unsure of who to start this week, check out my rankings. If you own Vernon Davis, I think you're happy he's on bye. He hasn't looked himself. I list the top 15, because those are the only ones who are usually worth starting.
Byes: New York Giants & San Francisco 49ers

Other Rankings: QB, RB, WR, TE, DEF
Rank & Player | Opponent | Notes |
1. Rob Gronkowski, NE | CHI | If Gronk is healthy, Gronk is starting for you. I think he has a big week against Da Bears. |
2. Julius Thomas, DEN | SD | Thomas is always a high-end start. UPDATE: A surprisingly poor performance from Thomas. |
3. Greg Olsen, CAR | SEA | Olsen is one of the few reliable targets in Carolina. |
4. Antonio Gates, SD | @DEN | I swear I didn't think Gates was going to hand the torch to Ladarius Green this season. UPDATE: Gates put up a big game. Hopefully you started him. |
5. Jimmy Graham, NO | GB | It's tough to trust his health, but you likely don't have other options. |
6. Martellus Bennett, CHI | @NE | Bennett's production has slowed because he hasn't had a touchdown since Week 3. |
7. Jordan Reed, WAS | @DAL | Reed is healthy and the Cowboys struggle stopping tight ends. |
8. Zach Ertz, PHI | @ARI | Ertz has promise, but he's been a little boom-or-bust this season. |
9. Travis Kelce, KC | STL | He's inconsistent, like many tight ends, but you can justify starting Kelce. |
10. Dwayne Allen, IND | @PIT | Allen has put up good numbers lately. |
11. Jordan Cameron, CLE | OAK | Cameron has done nothing expect for Week 6. |
12. Delanie Walker, TEN | HOU | Walker is much better with Locker than Whitehurst under center, but now he gets Mettenberger. That could hurt. |
13. Jason Witten, DAL | WAS | Witten just hasn't gotten enough targets. |
14. Charles Clay, MIA | JAC | You could do worse and he's got a good matchup. |
15. Owen Daniels, | @CIN | Daniels is coming off a nice game and the Bengals have issues with covering tight ends. UPDATE: Daniels is out for Sunday. |
