Tonight's game between the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints is meaningless. Neither team is going to make the playoffs, and they are only playing the final three games of the regular season because the schedule demands it.
I'm sorry if this offends any chest-thumping coaches or players out there. But I've seen this meaningless, end-of-the-season scenario play out too often with the Lions and other NFL teams year after year. I'm sick of it, and I wish the NFL would consider finding a way to fix this problem.
It's complicated, but the NFL could use the example of Major League Baseball and the September call-ups on expanded rosters.
