The Broncos’ league-leading defense has offered its share of late-game thrills and near heart attacks. Eleven, actually. An NFL single-season record.
And general manager and executive vice president John Elway has felt every one.
“Just a great, great win today,” he said following the Broncos’ 20-18 victory over the Patriots in the AFC championship. “I think I’ve aged 20 years in the last five weeks.”
Standing in the Broncos’ locker room with an AFC championship cap on his head and the Lamar Hunt trophy in hand, Elway smiled as he thought back over the team’s big plays and close calls over the season.
