The Dallas Cowboys have secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs, meaning the backups will play heavily against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. That includes QB Tony Romo, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
Dak Prescott will still start for the Cowboys, but both Romo and third-string QB Mark Sanchez will play. Earlier this week, it was reported that Sanchez would get the bulk of the reps. Archer doesn't report which of the QBs will get the bulk of the reps.
Romo hasn't played since last Thanksgiving, when he broke his collarbone for the second time that season against the Carolina Panthers. He broke his back in the preseason and Prescott's play resulted in Romo becoming the backup.
Given Romo's contract and the presence of Prescott, his playing in Week 17 could be the last time he suits up in a Cowboys uniform. Several teams are expected to have interest in Romo, be it via a trade or a release. Romo is the franchise leader in passing yards and touchdowns. Romo can't do much to increase his trade value, but another injury or poor play could hurt his value.
