The Dallas Cowboys got the news they were dreading on Saturday, as starting quarterback Tony Romo will be out for 6-10 weeks with a broken bone in his back, meaning he'll be back for their Week 9 matchup against the Browns at the latest. Dallas went 1-11 without Romo last season, so how can we expect them to do without him during the first half of his season? Here's a game-by-game breakdown:
Week 1: vs. New York Giants
WIN (1-0)
Rookie Dak Prescott has looked excellent so far in the preseason, and while it is just the preseason, the Giants lack the secondary or pass rush to really make
Week 2: at Washington Redskins
LOSS (1-1)
Washington is a very tough team to beat at home, going 6-2 at FedEx Field last season. Prescott is bound to have some struggles at some point, and I expect him to make some mistakes in his first road game.
Week 3: vs. Chicago Bears
WIN (2-1)
Chicago has all the weapons you could want on offense, but so do the Cowboys - and like the Giants, their secondary is very much a work in progress. They shouldn't challenge Prescott too much, giving Dallas the win.
Week 4: at San Francisco 49ers
WIN (3-1)
Simply put, the 49ers have one of the worst overall rosters in the NFL. The Cowboys could not throw the ball the entire game and still win.
Week 5: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
LOSS (3-2)
This is the earliest Romo can return in the 6-10 week timetable, and the Cowboys will need him. Cincinnati's defense is one of the best in the league and will give Prescott fits. Heck, Dallas may not even win this game if Romo is playing.
Week 6: at Green Bay Packers
LOSS (3-3)
Prescott will be comfortable as the starter by now, but there's nothing easy about going and playing one of the league's best teams in a very tough place to play. This will be a loss no matter who's under center.
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: vs. Philadelphia Eagles
WIN (4-3)
The Eagles are a team that is rebuilding, and they have questions all over the field because of it. This will be a heated rivalry matchup, but Philly just doesn't have the firepower to match up with the Cowboys.
While a 4-3 start to the season isn't what the Cowboys were hoping for at the start of the season, they'll certainly take it. It keeps them firmly in the playoff race, and in good position to keep pace at the top of the NFC East.
