Former Cowboys LB Rolando McClain Arrested On Marijuana, Gun Charges

Former Alabama and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested on Friday on marijuana and gun charges, the Hartselle (AL) Police Department announced.

Anna Beahm of DecaturDaily.com described the incident that led to McClain's arrest.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a window tint violation on Chestnut Street near the Alabama 31 and Alabama 36 junction, Hartselle police spokesman Lt. Justin Barley said.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled the aroma of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search, Barley said.

McClain, 27, was found with marijuana and was also carrying a firearm without a permit, he said.

The incident occurred between 1 and 1:15 p.m. today, police said.

McClain was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana, carrying a firearm without a permit and a misdemeanor equipment violation.

McClain was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, then was missed the entire 2016 season after failing another drug test and being too overweight. The league suspended him indefinitely in December.

McClain has has several previous run-ins with police, being arrested three times between 2011 and 2013.

The Oakland Raiders selected McClain with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2010 draft and played three seasons with the team before retiring. He came back to play for the Cowboys in 2014.

In his last season in 2015, McClain had 80 tackles with two sacks and an interception in 15 games.
