Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin is holding out of OTAs and will not practice until he gets a new deal from the team.
However, it may not be that long until Dallas caves and meets Martin's contract demands, according to Kevin Sherrington of the Dallas Morning News.
No idea, but he's going to get what he wants. You could make the argument that with Tyron Smith's bad back, Martin is their best OL. He's already considered the best guard in the league, and the Cowboys have invested a lot of money and several high draft picks in this OL. They're not about to let something like money ruin that now. This OL is their identity.
Martin is scheduled to make $9.2 million this season, which is the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. He is reportedly looking to become the highest-paid guard in the league, which would pay him at least $13.3 million per year.
And, according to head coach Jason Garrett, Martin deserves it.
"He's everything you want in a football player," Garrett said. "He's an outstanding player, the best at his position in the National Football League and represents our team on and off the field exactly how you want. He's a great leader, been a great leader right from the start.
"But, again, this is the business side of the NFL and he and his representatives are working through things with the Joneses about getting this deal done. These are big decisions on both sides. This is just one of the fallouts of something like this, but he's handled himself perfectly right from the start."
Martin, who was working out with the team prior to OTAs, has not missed a game since entering the league in 2014 - and has started every single one of those games.
