Dallas Cowboys defensive end David Irving is suspended for the first four games of the season after failing a drug test, but when he returns to the field, the Cowboys are expecting big things from him. And, they aren't the only ones.
Pro Football Focus named a "secret superstar" for all 32 NFL teams, and Irving got the nod from the Cowboys roster.
Spent 35.3 percent of his snaps on the edge and the rest on the inside of the Dallas defensive line.
Irving has just cost himself the first four games of the 2017 season thanks to a suspension, but his 2016 in particular showed some impressive potential, and he recorded 39 total pressures and 14 defensive stops. Irving played just 486 defensive snaps and had the fifth-best pass-rushing productivity score of 8.5 among defensive tackles.
Irving can play either defensive tackle or defensive end, and recently signed a one-year tender for $615K for the upcoming season.
The 6-foot-7, 280-pounder emerged as one of Dallas' best pass rushers last season, recording 17 tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles and five passed defensed despite playing in less than 500 snaps. He was expected to have a bigger role this season, though this suspension may change that.
