The Dallas Cowboys are making one thing clear - they are not looking for a backup quarterback.
Kellen Moore is slated to be Dak Prescott's backup, but given his struggles when he saw the field in 2015 and how different his play-style is from Prescott's, many thought they could be looking to upgrade.
That is not the case, as offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said the Cowboys “have all the confidence in the world” in Moore, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.
“He’s like a machine,” Linehan said. “He anticipates and sees guys open. He’s extremely accurate. A lot of guys get it done different ways, but guys don’t last long if they can’t hit moving targets on the run. That’s what he does best.
“It might be a little bit different than Dak would do it, but he knows what he can do and he doesn’t let what he can’t do get in his way,”
Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley echoed those sentiments to Machota.
“He’s exceptional. A lot of guys wrote him off because of his size. They tend to do that in this league. But you can’t just find a gamer that knows how to go out there and play football...he’s one of those guys.”
Moore would figure to step in if Prescott were to suffer an injury, but he may not see extended playing time in such a scenario. Dallas has gone out of their way to not rule out a possible Tony Romo return if anything were to happen to Prescott.
Romo, who is now a broadcaster for CBS, has a clause in his contract that would allow him to return to the NFL if he chose to do so.
Moore has played in just three games in his career, all of which came with the Cowboys in 2015 - and all of which were losses. In those games, he passed for 779 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions.
