The Dallas Cowboys have been mentioned as a team that could take a QB in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. However, the latest report says the team is "extremely unlikely" to take a QB at No. 4 overall.
That report comes from Benjamin Allbright, a radio host in Denver. Allbright doesn't have much name recognition, but he has been accurate in the past with these types of reports.
The Cowboys are likely to target a defensive player in the first round, assuming the report is accurate. The most likely fits are UCLA LB Myles Jack, Ohio State DE Joey Bosa and Florida State Jalen Ramsey. Any of those players, and likely a few more, could make an immediate impact for a defense that needs help.
If the Cowboys do pass on a QB, they could elect to draft one in the later rounds, or pursue a younger QB in free agency. The team needs a backup QB, as the Cowboys struggled badly without Tony Romo last season. Dallas got an up-close look at several QBs during the Senior Bowl.
