After losing two starting corners in Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr, cornerback is one of the top needs for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2017 NFL Draft. Even after adding Nolan Carroll, the Cowboys are expected to draft a corner early this year and potentially double-dip at the position. Obviously, there are any number of corners worth consideration for each pick, but we've narrowed it down to one corner the Cowboys could take in each round of the NFL Draft.
Round 1: Quincy Wilson, Florida
This is who I have the Cowboys taking in the first round of my most recent mock draft. He has the size the Cowboys are looking for (if their pre-draft visits are any sign). He doesn't have the speed the Cowboys covet, but there's a good chance the Cowboys run more zone this year after losing two safeties and two corners. If so, Wilson would be a good fit. He's certainly worth this selection and I've got a first round grade on him.
Round 2: Fabian Moreau, UCLA
The odd thing about the corners in this year's draft is that a few players the Cowboys could consider in Round 1 could fall to them in Round 2 (guys like Cordrea Tankersley, for example). A torn pectoral at his pro day likely eliminated Moreau from the first round (it was already a long-shot), but he could be a Day 2 option for Dallas. He again as the size-speed the Cowboys want and they met with him at his pro day and as one of the Cowboys 30 pre-draft visits. The Cowboys need an immediate impact from their first round selection, but even with the injury Moreau should be good to go around training camp.
Round 3: Ahkello Witherspoon, Colorado
Witherspoon is only player on this list who didn't meet with the Cowboys before the draft in some form. But, the Colorado product checks the boxes for Dallas. He's got the size (6-foot-3) and the speed (4.45 40-yard dash) the Cowboys tend to prefer (notice the theme thus far?). He's a bit raw and needs to show a willingness to tackle, but he's a quality player.
Round 4: Shaquill Griffin, UCF
The Cowboys brought in Griffin fora visit and he has the same traits some of the prospects have. He stands 6-foot tall, with 4.38 speed, but might be better suited for a zone scheme. This might be a slight reach for Griffin, but there's a slight drop-off among corners early on Day 3. A smaller school prospect like Griffin with good measurables could slide up a bit.
Round 5: Damontae Kazee, San Diego State
Here's the lone exception to the Cowboys size-speed love. The Cowboys did bring in Kazee for a visit, so there's some interest. At only 5-foot-10, he's likely a slot corner in the NFL. Of course, the only way the Cowboys could get Kazee in the fifth is via a trade (either up or down). The Cowboys are without a fifth rounder because of the Matt Cassel trade.
Round 6: Brendan Langley, Lamar
Langley is a small school player, but might not last to the Cowboys' sixth rounder. There's no doubt he has talent: he started his career at Georgia before transferring. He's a size-speed prospect, but is still quite raw. Maybe he never develops into anything more than a backup, but he's worth a late Day 3 flier.
Round 7: Treston Decoud, Oregon State
DeCoud was one of the surprise Cowboys pre-draft visits, since he's a Day 3 pick at best. He might not be drafted at all, but he has the size teams, including the Cowboys, like. He's another potential zone fit, meaning the Cowboys could try to take him for depth/special teams help with one of their two first round picks.
