The Dallas Cowboys are expected to release Tony Romo this offseason, and his status for next season has become one of the most highest-profile saga in the league. The Denver Broncos figured to be one of the leading candidates to sign him, but that may not be the case.
General manager John Elway told ProFootballTalk that he believes Paxton Lynch can be the team's franchise quarterback and that they don't think they need to add another quarterback to their roster.

“I think so. I’m excited about Paxton. But you never know,” Elway said. “Last year, picking Paxton in the first round, and the talent level that we see, Paxton is going to have a great career in the NFL. The bottom line is bringing him along the right way and developing him the right way.”
Head coach Vance Joseph reiterated those comments at the combine, saying Denver is "fine" with Lynch and Trevor Siemian on the roster. Lynch passed for 497 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in three games last season, including two starts.
If Denver is indeed out of the running, that makes the Houston Texans the clear frontrunner in the Romo sweepstakes. In fact, ESPN's Ed Werder reported that was Romo's preferred destination anyway.
Romo has said he wants to start for a championship contender, which Denver is and Houston would be with him on the roster. They already have one of the best defenses in the league, a top-tier wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins and reliable running back in Lamar Miller.
Romo played just one drive this season, completing 3/4 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. In his last full season in 2014, Romo through for 3,705 yards with 34 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.
