In today's Cowboys news update, Dallas Cowboys first-round draft pick Zack Martin was originally drafted in the 16th spot for his work as an offensive tackle at Notre Dame. He was subsequently moved to guard, but he looks to be getting work at center as well during the 2014 NFL season.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, this may mark the second straight draft in which the Cowboys have drafted a player who will be getting significant time at center, as Martin took snaps at the position during Tuesday's OTA session.
“It’s hard,” Martin said after the practice, per Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “The first time I was in there, I came to the side, I was like, ‘God, you got a lot going on out there. You got to know a lot.’”
As Florio posits in his post on Tuesday, "last year, the Cowboys used a first-round pick on center Travis Frederick. He took some snaps at guard in training camp. If Martin will be playing some center, maybe Frederick will again line up as a guard."
Speaking with reporters, head coach Jason Garrett doesn't see to have one particular use for Martin in mind.
“We viewed him as a guy who could potentially play five offensive line spots when we drafted him,” Garrett said, via Williams. “He’s certainly done a very good job at guard. We’ll try to give him some snaps at center as well.”
