Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has been diagnosed with two transverse process fractures in his back, but could play against Arizona on Sunday.
A transverse process fracture is a fracture to the part of the bone extending out from the vertebra - it usually happens as part of a larger force- or impact-related injury. Romo apparently managed to pick up the injury without damaging his vertebrae or anything else in the neighborhood, which makes a shorter recovery time possible without risking further injuries.
The 6-2 Cowboys need a win against the Cardinals to get back to their winning ways - Dallas had all the momentum in their division before a surprising loss to the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. Backup Brandon Weeden came in after Romo went to the locker room with back issues in the first half, but Weeden was unable to provide a spark for the offense as Romo eventually came back in during the fourth quarter.
The news was first reported by ESPN's Todd Archer.
