The Dallas Cowboys are off to a surprisingly hot 4-1 start to their season, including a big win over the Saints and a close victory over the much-improved Houston Texans. Dallas is in prime position to make the playoffs after five weeks, but could they possibly win their division and get a first-round bye? Let's look at the rest of their games:
Oct. 12 @ Seattle
The Cowboys will keep it close, but you don't go up to Seattle and win. You just don't.
LOSS (4-2)
Oct. 19 vs New York Giants
The Giants have turned things around after an 0-2 start and are looking a lot better offensively. However, their defensive secondary is still a question, and a steady does of DeMarco Murray should neutralize New York's pass rush.
WIN (5-2)
Oct. 27 vs Washington
Washington has had the wheels fall off on their season, and they don't appear to be turning it around anytime soon. Kirk Cousins will be able to take advantage of the Cowboys weak secondary, but Dallas will be able to score more points against a terrible Redskins defense to win a shootout.
WIN (6-2)
Nov. 2 vs Arizona
At this point, the media will probably be dubbing the Cowboys as Super Bowl favorites as seems to be the ritual every year, while the Cardinals will be fighting to keep pace with Seattle and San Francisco in the NFC West. That intensity - and maybe a little let up from Dallas - will give Arizona the edge.
LOSS (6-3)
Nov. 9 @ Jacksonville
Blake Bortles has the Jaguars playing better, but Jacksonville still isn't any good.
WIN (7-3)
Nov. 23 @ New York Giants
Dallas beat the Giants the first time around, and I expect these two sides to split this year since they're so evenly matched.
LOSS (7-4)
Nov. 27 vs Philadelphia
The Cowboys then face a short week and play the Eagles on Thanksgiving, which won't be good for Tony Romo or any of Dallas' older players. Philadelphia's attack is hard to stop anyways, but with only a few days to prepare, the Cowboys won't be able to get it done.
LOSS (7-5)
Dec. 4 @ Chicago
Both teams will be playing their second Thursday night game in a row, so nobody will have an advantage in that regard. However, Chicago's been terrible on defense so far this year and turn the ball over a lot, which Dallas will be able to turn into a lot of points and a victory.
WIN (8-5)
Dec. 14 @ Philadelphia
Similar to the Giants, I expect the Eagles and Cowboys to split their matchups this year. And with 10 days to prepare, this will be the one Dallas wins.
WIN (9-5)
Dec. 21 vs Indianapolis
The Cowboys will probably need one more win to clinch a playoff spot at this point in the year, while the Colts will be fighting with the Texans for the AFC South crown. This game will be close, but I trust Andrew Luck more than Tony Romo.
LOSS (9-6)
Dec. 28 @ Washington
Robert Griffin will be back for this game, though the Redskins will have nothing to play for. Dallas should win this one easily, clinching a wild card playoff spot.
WIN (10-6)
