5. The movement of Tyron Smith to left tackle.
While this move may seem like a simple shift, it should solidify the position for years to come with Smith only being 21 years old. The blind spot of Tony Romo should be
protected and lanes for Demarco Murray and Felix Jones should be open for a running game that ranked 18th in the NFL to improve and be a better part of the offense. Not to mention it will open the option of play-action pass for Romo and the boys to go down field.
4. Demarcus Ware breaking the sack record.
While this is a bold prediction, it isn't too far fetched even though Ware is now 30 and what one may call a seasoned veteran. Ware is always amongst the the leaders in sacks year in and year out and now there is something Ware may have that he has never had in recent years, a few extra seconds. With the addition on Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne in the secondary, Ware may be given that extra second he needs to compile his sacks and better yet, get Romo and the offense back on the field.
3. The return of Demarco Murray
While the running game suffered in the beginning of the 2011 season, the rookie from Oklahoma stepped in and it was apparent a void was filled. Murray brought glimpses of Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett back to the backfield and went on to rush for nearly 1,000 yards in an injury shortened season that may have cost the Cowboys a chance of reaching the playoffs with their loss of balance and focusing too much on the passing game to win games. If Murray stays healthy, the Cowboys will have a shot of being a top
five offense ans definitely compete for a NFC East title.
2 Finally... Conerback Depth
Yes, the prayers have finally been answered and Cowboy fans are glad to see that there is youth and talent in the secondary. Cowboys saw too many games slip out their grasp and it was mainly to blame on the secondary that became the face of fourth quarter collapses for the NFL. Not to mention the Cowboys were leading most of these games by more than 12 points, but teams seemed to go down the field rather easily and erase the deficit. The game that definitely hurt the most was when the Giants erased one such deficit and turned the season and the division around while the Cowboys lost a heart breaker at home. Terrence Newman is out and in comes Carr and Claiborne who have an eye for the ball and are play makers on defense, who besides Ware and Sean Lee, the Cowboys have been lacking. Also, Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins (a former first-round pick) return, and gives the cornerback position some depth which has been a position that has seen multiple injuries over the years. With four solid cornerbacks, the Cowboys have now erased a problem that haunted them all of last year.
1. Sense of Urgency
The new slogan for the Cowboys and one that is appropriate. With Cowboy stars such as Ware, Romo and Jason Witten hitting the ends of their prime, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the door was closing for a chance at a championship and it seems the Cowboys have responded. And while it seems like most people have drawn their attention from the Cowboys this season, analysts have said not to take your eyes away from the Cowboys who are still very talented and can make a run for the Super Bowl whether or not the urgency stays with them all season long.
