Dallas Cowboys Rumors Roundup: An Adrian Peterson Trade, Releasing Miles Austin and More

The Dallas Cowboys have certainly been staying busy - this week, they've been linked with the NFL's premier running back, Adrian Peterson.

Peterson has played for the Vikings for the entirety of his seven-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, but with the Vikings staring down yet another rebuilding phase, they could decide to cash in on Peterson, a player Cowboys Owner/GM Jerry Jones certainly wouldn't mind adding to his arsenal. Will the Cowboys break the bank and trade away even more draft picks to land Peterson?

If Peterson does become available, Dallas will certainly have to pay a hefty price for the reigning NFL MVP. Peterson would probably command two first-rounders, at least - and that's assuming Minnesota can even be convinced to let him go. Peterson certainly isn't enthralled with his current situation, and he made some uncharacteristically blunt comments Tuesday when he admitted Minnesota was "out of whack" at the moment.

Peterson' contract is also an issue, given that Dallas is projected to be at least $40 million over the cap soon, but we can see Jerry Jones throwing "money issues" and "common sense" out the window in order to land a once-in-a-generation talent.

Probability: 10%

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin

Will the Cowboys cut Miles Austin? It's looking more and more likely each week, and the emergence of Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley has made Austin (and his hefty contract) expendable. The Cowboys are seriously considering putting Austin on ice for a few weeks so he can fully recover from injury, but it sounds this is a last-gasp attempt to get Austin healthy and see if he can help this team if he's back at 100%

At this point, the only thing that could save Austin from getting cut would be the sudden appearance of a trade partner. With Austin's recent decline and weighty contract, the chances of that are slim-to-none.

Probability: 90%

Will Dallas find more playing time for Kyle Wilber? Wilber has seized the opportunity presented by DeMarcus Ware's injury and flashed massive potential in limited playing time so far this year. With Ware still in dangerous form, how will the Cowboys integrate Wilber into their defensive scheme?

Wilber has the versatility and adaptability to contribute at a number of positions, and Dallas already have the proven George Selvie on the left. If Wilber sees an increase in playing time, look for him to get some snaps at outside linebacker, where he played in college. The Wake Forest product will probably rotate in for Justin Durant several times per game, and the increase in playing time should help him continue to develop into a major asset on defense.

Probability: 80%
